The Red Dot Arms Introduction to Pistols class is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation of handguns.

Full Description: This class is 4 hours long and includes classroom instruction and range time learning to shoot a .22LR Double Action Revolver & .22LR Semi Automatic Handgun. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular pistol model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the pistol; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive handouts and completion certificate. Firearms and ammunition will be provided for students. (Ruger SR22 Semi Automatics & Charter Arms Pathfinder Double Action Revolvers)

  • Firearms and ammo will be provided.  Please do not bring any firearms.
  • Eye & Ear Protection
  • Baseball Cap
  • Shirt that can be buttoned or tight at the neck.  (Long sleeves may be preferred)
  • Boots or outdoor shoes as range may be muddy
  • Rain Gear (if needed)
  • Seasonal clothing as needed.  Dress for the weather.  Shooting portion of class takes place outdoors.

Why should I attend this class?

If you are new to firearms, this is a great introduction class for you! This class has both classroom instruction and range time. No need for a firearm because firearms and ammo are provided.

Does the Red Dot Arms Introduction to Pistols class qualify for Concealed Carry?

For the state of IL, the Red Dot Arms Introduction to Pistols class does not qualify for Concealed Carry. For the state of WI, it does qualify for Concealed Carry; however, we do recommend the RDA Concealed Carry Part 1 Class as this class consists of more in-depth training.

Can we bring our own firearms?

Not for this class.  Red Dot Arms Training Academy provides the firearms and ammo. If you would like to use your own firearm, please join the Red Dot Arms Concealed Carry Part 1.

Where does this class take place?

This class begins at Red Dot Arms. The shooting portion takes place 10 miles north of Red Dot Arms.

Why can't I bring my own firearm?

This class focuses on both revolvers and semi-automatics. Thus, we provide all students with the identical firearms.  Both of these firearms are chambered in 22LR.   This class is only 4 hours in length; thus, there is not enough time to explain each type of firearm on the market.

What type of firearms are provided?

Charter Arms Pathfinder revolvers and  Ruger SR22 semi-automatics.

What is the age limit for this class?

I have never fired a firearm. Can I attend this class?

This class is designed for people that have never fired a firearm before or for people that want a great foundation to build upon.  This class will get you started on a lifetime of safe gun handling.

FOID Statement: Illinois residents that will be TRANSPORTING their own firearm to and from the class/range must be in possession of a valid FOID/CCL card, and be of legal age, 21 for handguns, and 18 for long guns.  A FOID card is not required to participate in the class. Out of state residents need to follow the age requirements and have a valid ID.
